The Boothroyd

The Boothroyds were clearing out their late father's barn when they came across some old-growth teak. They were close to selling it to a local teak dealer but couldn't end up parting with it. Instead, K decided to surprise his wife with a piece that would commemorate her father.

K reached out to Kauri Woodworks to design a swinging wooden bench. It was meant to replace an existing one that had been well loved and weathered down. K sent us some photo inspirations and we got to work.

This wood was an absolute dream to work with. We finished it with a teak sealer to hold up to the elements of the west coast. This piece was finished in the fall of 2024 and given to J as a Christmas gift.

The piece will be hung up on their back porch where K, J, and their kids spend lots of time year round. We are so grateful to be able to create such a meaningful piece for the Boothroyds.

"The wood has been sitting in the barn over 50 years. My dad —they called him Boots—was going to make a headboard out of it but never got around to it. He would be so happy to know what it has become. I know he would just love it." — JB
